We had a 5 star experience from start to finish from Mark and his team when organising my dad’s funeral. They were happy to do as much or as little as we wanted. They were sensitive and supportive throughout. Mark gave excellent advice about the areas that we weren’t sure about, but we never felt pressured to pay for anything we didn’t want or need. He was very honest and upfront throughout the whole process. When there was a slight difficulty over dates with the burial ground, Mark went above and beyond to make sure to make sure that it all worked out with minimal inconvenience to the family. We would use them again should the need arise, highly recommend.

I wanted to say thank you for the lovely send off for my mum. It’s coming up to nearly two years since I lost my mum and I had never arranged or organised a funeral before and I felt so lost at the time but I felt so assured and your professionalism and help that was given to us I will always remember. I just found your office with no recommendations and I was so glad I walked in that day and your dad was just so great and knowledgeable and knew what to say to help us through it. Thank you again. Sorry it’s not an enquiry just a thank you and I’m sure I thanked you all at the time but my head was in a different place back then and I wasn’t 100% sure so wanted to send this to make sure you all knew how thankful I was.
Two things stand out for me: a dignified procession with the coffin, worthy of the royal guard, and we had good communication, even when we needed to clarify something.

I am so glad that I picked up the phone to contact Ivor Thomas Funerals. From initial contact to the conclusion of the funeral service, and subsequent administration matters, the service received from them was exemplary. It has been some years since I have had to arrange a funeral and I felt supported along every step of the way – each detail was explained and each choice illustrated in a very easy to understand way. For Mark Thomas and his amiable team it seemed that no request was too much. My deceased aunt had been living in a care home and Mark and his team took it on themselves to liaise with the home as I am residing overseas. They also contacted a minister to conduct the service and put me in touch with him to agree the order of service.
I was also able to arrange directly with them floral tributes for my late aunt.
The professionalism of the team at the funeral itself was very evident. All was absolutely stress free; as if I had been used to dealing with them a number of years. Ivor Thomas Funerals Ltd provide a superb professional service, but personable at the same time, at a very reasonable price. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

When someone close to you passes, you need professional people who are understanding, sympathetic, caring and above all, trustworthy. I contacted three companies in Cardiff, the last being Ivor Thomas. I chose them because of their sincere attitude. Nothing was too much trouble for them. They listened to my requests, explained everything in detail, they advised and recommended ministers, florists and funeral services. May I also add, that they are a family run business, who go above and beyond. From the moment I stepped into their office of business, I felt at ease and comfortable to be there.

I’ve never had to arrange a funeral before and didn’t know where to start but I couldn’t recommend Ivor Thomas Funerals enough to anyone. I’d rang a few companies to research and get quotes. After speaking to Marc on the phone, he really put my mind at ease about the whole process and guided me through step by step how the service and buriel would be planned. I instantly felt trust in the company and most importantly, Marc and his team wanted to do what was best for our family. The whole team were really compassionate and understanding throughout every step of the way. I must have called the team around 30-40 times during the weeks leading to my father’s funeral. There was never a silly question and I felt comfortable in asking about the finer details of the service, the small things that really matter to you and make a huge difference! No job was ever too big or ever too much hassle for the team. The priority was always to ensure that service was how we wanted it to be! At a time when stepping up to the role of events planner is simply beyond reason, being steeped in grief, disbelief and exhaustion, knowing what to do next and how to do so, and how to do so in the best way possible for your loved ones memory, is one of life’s greatest challenges. Just feeding yourself and responding to the umpteen demands from other loved ones awaiting updates is almost impossible.
Without an existing funeral plan for my loved one, I was feeling my way around in the dark, whilst also conscious that my father would require very specific rites and treatment which might be tricky to accommodate.
I looked around at funeral homes and received cursory quotes from others, but Mark spoke to me like a human bereaved, and elicited my needs in a straightforward but compassionate way. No question or requirement was too difficult, and honestly I’m sure we were quite unusual!
For shorthand explanation and to help people searching for a similarly open-minded funeral directors in South Wales, I was looking for a funeral home which could accommodate the needs of the more, lets say “pagan” variety. This is not their espoused niche, but they were absolutely ready to accommodate in a completely non-judgemental way. Trying to accommodate such needs usually means going further afield to a specialist business and also spending several times the amount of money, neither of which was possible. And Ivor Thomas made it unnecessary, giving dad an honourable, respectful and compassionate send off.
This is a business steeped in values of inclusivity and transparency. They meet individuals where they are in their journey and whoever you are, whatever your background, you will be welcomed and treated as the unique human being you are. I cannot thank Ivor Thomas funerals enough for all their help, support and advice.
Right from the start I felt at ease with them. They are a lovely family run business and it shows with the care they showed my father whilst in their care. It’s was reassuring to know that he was resting in a place that would look after him.
Neil and his amazing team were able to guide us through the process and give advice when I was unsure. Whenever I rang up with questions, of which there were many, they were always able to help.
They organised a visual tribute and were able to recommend a lovey celebrant who gave the funeral a personal touch and really celebrated my fathers life.
The guests commented on how lovely the funeral was and how it had captured my fathers life beautifully.
Not that anyone really wants to plan a funeral but I would definitely recommend this amazing friendly family run company.

To say that this was the hardest experience of my life, would be an understatement, I had no idea where to start. Trying to choose the most perfect funeral for my Mum didn’t come easily, but Mark made it seamless, it was the most perfect day, and I would never be able to thank the team enough. They went with all our choices and decisions, no rush, no stress, no question. I would recommend wholeheartedly if the perfect funeral directors is what you’re looking for. My brother passed away suddenly and it was a very traumatic time for the family. We chose Ivor Thomas as they are a family business and we wanted to feel that my brother was being cared for in a caring, family way.
My brother had not left any details as to the way that he would like his funeral to be held, but to us, as a family, it was very important that all areas of his life were celebrated.
Mark recommended a wonderful celebrant [ Bernadette] who carried out the service with such care for those taking part.
Nothing was too much for Mark, and even when we decided that we needed a weblink for friends and colleagues of my brother’s from all over the world, it was done with quiet efficiency and we were not made to feel that we were causing any difficulties for them.
Mark even managed to source a piece of music that had not been released as a recording for us to play during the service.
I would like to thank Mark, Neil and the rest of the team for their care and support during what has been a very difficult time for our family.

We had a direct cremation then shortly afterwards a memorial service for my Dad recently, all arranged through Ivor Thomas funeral directors. Mark and the rest of the team were fantastic and helped to make a really difficult time much more bearable. They did everything possible to make the process as easy as possible for us, and the day of the memorial was really comforting for us as a family. They came highly recommended, and I can see why, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to others.

I can’t speak highly enough of the quality of service and care that Ivor Thomas Funerals provided for my grandmother’s funeral. Arranging the service from abroad, required me to place a considerable amount of trust in Mark and his family. Not only did they perform every aspect of the service with upmost professionalism, Mark was able to provide exceptional guidance and support during a very difficult and emotional time.
Mark walked me through each step of the process with assuredness and empathy and gave me considerable support for each important decision that was required to be made on behalf of the family. No request or question was too difficult or silly. No time was inconvenient, Mark and his family were extremely accommodating and respectful at all times.
Another thing that struck me on the day of the funeral, was the extended team that Mark and his family have for the service. Each member was kind, respectful, professional, and extremely empathetic to my family.
I would highly recommend Mark and his family, who I am sure will continue to provide a personal and exceptionally kind, professional service in future.

My wife recently passed after a very short illness, and I wanted a service that would capture her essence and personality. To me the service had to be something that could portray my wife as the person she was.
I reviewed different funeral directors, and within a few minutes of speaking to Mark I felt at ease with his manner, professionalism, and his understanding of my requirements.
Having attended funerals, but not having had to arrange one I was unsure of the process and what the order of service should contain. My wife did not want a traditional service with hymns and prayers. She wanted a service that would reflect her. Mark was able to guide and reassure me in terms of an alternative service.
During the arrangements, Ivor Thomas were in regular contact, supporting me as required. My wife’s service would involve a visual display of photographs and video, Mark explained that it would be hard, not just be selecting photographs but would be looking back at our history together. It was painful, but the children and I were able to reminisce and remember with fond memories.
As my wife was a bright and colourful person, it was her wish that everybody attending her funeral should be something yellow. On the day of the funeral, all members of Ivor Thomas wore yellow ties in respect to my wife. A simple gesture but demonstrated the personal touch from Mark and the team. In addition, at my request Mark was able to source an alternative style coffin, which when I discussed it with the children, all agreed ‘was mum’. Feedback since the funeral is that the service especially the coffin ‘was Deb’.
During the service the celebrant’s words depicted my wife as a person she was. The service had moments of tears and of laughter, and time to reflect and remember.
Recommend, may not be an appropriate word. However, nothing can ease the pain of a loved one passing. But the service helps us to remember them as the person they were. To me Ivor Thomas did just this.

We sadly had to instruct Ivor Thomas recently for my father’s funeral. This was an emotional and difficult time for us all but the staff were caring, thoughtful and respectful. Ivor Thomas Funerals have managed two family funerals within the past few months, and both done with the utmost care and consideration. As a family run funeral directors, they bring a special touch to the whole process of honouring the last memory family & friends will have of their loved one.
Prior to our most recent loss, had often viewed the role of the funeral director as kind of morbid, but ITF made me realise that it is a role of privilege – after all, you are entrusting them with taking care of your loved one’s transition. Nothing was too much trouble, when we first sat with Mark & Neil, we thought we had the whole service arranged, but Mark knew there would be many changes along the way and ensured us, no matter the time of the day, they were always there to accommodate, and they were.

I cannot thank ITF enough! They are so caring, so helpful, so kind. They were more than happy to explain things over and over when I struggled to retain information with my grief. I literally felt that nothing was too much for them. They gave great advice and suggestions, and were never pushy. They just wanted everything to be right for us, and they would do everything and anything to help. I have never arranged a funeral before and I can honestly say that Mark and the team guided me through every step of the way. They even arranged the beautiful flowers! I would 100% recommend them to anybody. Wonderful people, full of empathy. These gentlemen from the very start showed the upmost respect to my Grampy after losing his wife of 60 years.
They put my Grampy at ease, he didn’t have to worry about anything.
Every part of the service was done to a very high standard in a professional manner.
They went above and beyond, for the price my Grampy paid and what he got was unbelievable, you would have thought he paid doubled the amount.
The family had the chance to see my Nan a couple days before the funeral, which made a couple of them nervous. But the work the lady done on her was remarkable, she looked absolutely beautiful.
Once again they went above and beyond. Not only my Grampy but the whole family was at ease after seeing how well they looked after her.
I would highly recommend this company. I know in the future my family will use them again, (hopefully not to soon though)

I will always be extremely grateful to Ivor Thomas Funerals for the incredibly professional and caring service they provided when we lost my grandfather. As a family we chose Ivor Thomas because they are a family run business and truly care about what they do. Ivor Thomas also only have 1 funeral per day meaning loved ones get their full care and attention. This place was honestly a god send. They took care of my Father in law after his passing so well. They also went above and beyond for my partner who lost her Dad. Nothing was too much, everything was explained, extremely professional yet personable throughout. We simply could not wish for a better people who helped us with passing of my husband mum. They have been kind caring , and most importantly respectful, and understanding. The thing with loss is , we are most of the time unprepared, and after our loved one pass away, we are left with trying to wrap ones life- if you never done this before while dealing with grief , then there are no better people than Mark and his father Niel , to guide you though this difficult time. They have funerals that suit any budget, and in my opinion they are the cheapest in Cardiff and Caerphilly ( that’s where i checked ), but being the cheapest – does not mean that they do very basic – quite the opposite! they go that extra mile. from my own experience there were quite a few times where Mark helped us , from trying to chase the coroner office who took forever , to do the service twice, because the family members arrived late , i honestly dont think anyone would have done that , but Niel and Mark did ! . for that we be very grateful. Death of my husband mum, made us think of our own mortality .We will be setting up our own funeral plans with Ivor Thomas to make sure everything is sorted. Again i wish i could gave 1000 stars if i could ! fantastic service.

Unfortunately I buried my grandfather 24th September 2020 with Ivor Thomas Funerals. Mark, Neil and Jess thank you all for being so compassionate, so helpful, so understanding, thanks for the advice and also being patient especially during these unprecedented times. Everything turned out amazing! Sad to say! But from the church, to the flower arrangements, to the coffin, picture slides, to the urn- I will say my grandad had a great send off.
The genuine compassion shown was heartfelt, and they made sure the funeral was how we wanted it. The communication was brilliant being that I am based in London. Such great service! We thank you so much.

My family and I chose to use the services of Ivor Thomas Funerals Cardiff when my husband sadly passed away. The care we received from first contact to last was outstanding. Both Neil and Mark were available at all times to ensure our needs were met and guided us through the process with respect and compassion, this being our first experience of arranging a funeral. Jess, the secretary, is a lovely addition to the team. The service was delivered by a celebrant, Bernadette, who continued the high level of compassion and empathy and carried out the reading beautifully. Thank you. The quality of the casket was extremely high and the cars, pallbearers drivers continued to impress. I cannot recommend the company highly enough and they all ensured that the very sad occasion left us, as a family, feeling that we had done my husband, my children’s father and grandchildren’s grandfather proud. As a family we cannot thank Mark, Neil and his family enough. From the start they were so empathetic and showed true care for what we were going through. They show the upmost respect for everyone involved. As a family run business they supported us more than we ever expected and we felt they were and extended part of our family and service. I am a solicitor specialising in Estate administration, and had the pleasure of instructing Mark, Neil and the rest of the team at Ivor Thomas to arrange the funeral of a lady who had passed with no family close enough to deal with things.
The arrangement was perfect. The service, provided by a family-run company, was well considered and the minister presiding was well briefed.
The cost was very reasonable, certainly in respect of other similar arrangements that I have been involved in both personally and professionally.
I can’t speak highly enough of this exceptional outfit. They give you all the time you need, and have the ability to make everything so personal and tailored for your loved one.

I never write reviews usually, however recently myself and my family required the services of Mark and Ivor. As a result, I felt compelled to give them the praise that they deserve.
Our funeral was a natural burial in Usk and they were an integral to ensuring it ran smoothly.
We received outstanding customer service from all the staff there (before and on the day). They went over and above the call of duty during a very stressful and difficult period for us.
Nothing was too much trouble for them, and we really appreciated their patience and support during that time.
As far as I am concerned if you are in this situation and require full commitment and backing from a trusted funeral director, do not hesitate to call them.

Mark was brilliant, when we first met him to arrange mum’s funeral, we instantly knew that the funeral company was right for us.
Family run experienced business, nothing too much trouble, everything arranged to take the stress out of what is a very difficult time. The most thoughtful task was they laid mum on a lavender pillow, brings a tear to my eye thinking of it.
I can thoroughly recommend them; you will be in safe hands.

I couldn’t recommend them enough.
Losing our Mum was a traumatic time and all four of us, her children, felt bereft and at a loss. The funeral and its planning was something we all dreaded, however, Ivor Thomas funerals made the whole procedure as painless as possible.
Straight from the first phone enquiry I could tell they had our best interests at heart, and nothing was too much trouble. We were carefully and respectfully guided through the funeral plans , there was no hard selling, it was all done incredibly professionally. At our initial meeting with Mark, we entered the office nervously, we were immediately put at ease, and we left at the end of the meeting as happy a family as we could be, under the circumstances. We could see they were approachable, they knew their job, and most of all they cared.
The options and the pricing was also very well explained and very clear and it was also very affordable.
On the funeral day everything was perfect, thanks to the planning and the communication we had with the team. Any changes we had made from the initial meeting were all dealt with as if nothing was too much trouble, they obviously and genuinely just wanted to get it the way we wanted and indeed everything happened as it should— it was respectful, efficient, beautiful , lovely flowers, smartly turned out, all so well organised. Mum would have been so pleased.
I hope I do not get involved with too many funerals, but if I do, I would have no hesitation in going straight to Ivor Thomas Funerals….I couldn’t recommend them enough, everything was perfect.
